Local churches work together at God's Food Pantry
Every Thursday, volunteers gather at God’s Food Pantry (GFP) to provide food for local families in need.
With the help of the Ministerial Association of local churches, God’s Food Pantry assists over 600 families per month on average.
"You'll always be greeted with a smile and a helping hand," volunteer, Teresa Kunze said.
There are many ways to help God’s Food Pantry provide for local families including volunteering time, donating money, and donating food.
Those interested in volunteering are asked to arrive Thursday morning before 10 a.m. and work until closing at 2 p.m.
Kunze said GFP is in great need of food and monetary donations to keep up with the number families seeking help.
"Freezer space abounds for donations of deer or other meat, right now," Kunze said. "and with commodities coming and go right out, supplying staple food items is dependent on donations."
Foods such as canned vegetables, corn muffin mix, macaroni and cheese, and canned beans and produce can be dropped off on Thursdays until 2 p.m. Meat will be accepted if refrigerator space is available.
Monetary donations are accepted on location or through one of GFP’s partner churches.
Proof of Lawrence Country residency must be presented in order to receive donations. Eligibility for donations is based on national poverty guidelines. If families are in an emergency situation, they are eligible to receive donations, as well.
Qualifying families receive food donations once each month. Donations are limited to one family per household. These donations are tracked using a computer database.
If a family cannot pick up their own food, they can assign someone to pick up their food for them ahead of time.
Photo identification must be presented at every visit.
God’s Food Pantry is located at 107 Southland Drive Unit 3 behind Big Blue Automotive in Louisa. It is open Thursdays from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
