Free summer lunch program in Blaine
BLAINE- Lawrence County Food Bank and Unity Baptist Church are partnering to provide lunches and activities for children one day a week in Blaine this summer.
Rachel Wheeler of the Food Bank was notified last week that two donors wanted to provide summer meals for the kids in Blaine this year.
Ms. Wheeler, who worked with the Summer Feeding program last summer at the Fire Department, said that she averaged feeding 15-20 kids at the Fire Department once a week and was disappointed that the program wasn’t going to be available for them this summer.
Meals will now be provided on Wednesdays at the Unity Baptist Church. Ms. Wheeler said that if there is a good response from the community and lots of kids show up, they may be able to increase the number of days that they provide the meals.
The Blaine Summer Meal Program will begin Wednesday, June 6that the Unity Baptist Church and meals will be served from 11 am to 12 pm.
Meals will be provided every Wednesday and Unity Baptist Church members will have activities for children who attend. Unity Baptist Church will also give rides to and from the meals if necessary.
Please contact Ms. Rachel Wheeler at 606-624-5353 or Daniel Castle, Unity Church at 606-225-7252 if you have any questions.
