Library announces renovation project

LOUISA- The Lawrence County Public Library is excited to announce a building renovation project with a tentative start date of winter 2018.

The Board of Trustees approved an architectural feasibility study conducted in November 2017 to provide a vision for the future of the library. Work will include updating the existing building to expand and improve public service areas, technology, and to facilitate the rapid growth of library usage.

The renovation focuses heavily on the interior of the building with the only addition being an expansion of the children’s area.

The library will not relocate during renovation and some services may be limited during the construction phase.

Due to the financial stewardship of previous administrations and Trustees, the project will be funded by revenue accrued by the Library district.

Taxpayers will not see an increase in Library taxes due to the renovation. In 2017 – 2018, the Board of Trustees chose to approve a tax rate lower than the compensating rate.

Design for the project is being administered by OPN Architects located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The project has an estimated completion date of 12-18 months.
