LCHS Cheer qualifies for State
Lexington- Lawrence County High School’s cheerleaders will be competing against 15 other squads in the Kentucky Association of Pep Organization Sponsors (KAPOS) State Championship next month.
The team earned the spot Nov. 17 at KAPOS Regionals, placing first out of 7 squads. This is the first time in 10 years that the high school has competed in the 2.5 minute routine category at KAPOS.
The week prior to KAPOS Regionals, the team went up against 16 other squads at Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) Regionals, placing sixth with a bid to compete at UCA Nationals at Disney World in February. It is the first time in eight years that the high school has competed in the 2.5 minute routine category at UCA.
“These girls have worked countless hours to get where they are,” said first-year head coach, Larisa Skaggs. “ We are so excited to see what else the competition season has in store for us.”
KAPOS State Championship will take place Dec. 8 at Alltech Arena in Lexington.
