Workman first-ever Volleydawg to make regional team
Betsy Layne- Lawrence County High School senior, Lexie Workman is the first student in the school’s history to be chosen for the 15th Region All-Tournament volleyball team. The award is given to athletes who perform exceptionally during the regional tournament.
Workman has played on the varsity volleyball team for 4 years, as well as on league and travel teams. She also assists with the Louisa Middle School volleyball team and coaches a league team.
“Making the regional team was a very exciting experience,” Workman said. “To be the first volleyball player from Lawrence County to make it was an amazing and honoring feeling.”
LCHS volleyball experienced another first this season when they qualified for the regional tournament.
Volleydawg coach, Autumn Blevins, said Workman’s leadership as team captain was one of the reasons for their record-breaking season.
“Lexie is an exceptional student-athlete. I admire her work ethic, attitude, and dedication to the sport,” Blevins said. “All of her accomplishments are well-deserved. She was the captain of our team [and] she took her role seriously by showing up early and leaving late. Lexie constantly led by example. We are going to miss her and the other seniors next season.”
